Ahead of the change, temperatures were relatively mild and days felt warm. Yesterday in the southeast it was dry and clear with temperatures about high teens to low 20’s in Victoria, mid to high teens in Tasmania and low to mid 20’s in southern NSW.
The change has brought with it colder air with lower temperatures and showers and even some small hail scattered across Tasmania, Victoria and southern NSW. Temperatures this afternoon have only reached low teens in Tasmania, low teens in Victoria and fell to mid-teens across much of southern NSW. Temperatures in the alpine regions have fallen to around zero around the higher peaks with some resultant snow flurries.
The cool change should reach Sydney about 4pm and Newcastle a couple of hours after that. Winds will turn sharply southerly and increase markedly, while simultaneously dropping temperatures by about 5 to 10 degrees.
A new high will stabilize conditions from the west over the next few days, forcing colder days to give way to more mild conditions…at least until Wednesday, when a front and trough will bring the next cool break in the south.
