Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Moderate Flood Warning For The Herbert River Issued at 12:04 AM AEST on Wednesday 18 February 2026 Flood Warning Number: 5 MODERATE FLOODING LIKELY AT GLENEAGLE HOMESTEAD OVERNIGHT TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT ABERGOWRIE BRIDGE AND LIKELY AT HALIFAX FROM LATE WEDNESDAY MORNING Moderate rainfall over the last few days has resulted in river level rises across the upper Herbert catchment. Moderate flooding is likely to develop at Gleneagle Homestead overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Minor flooding is occurring at Abergowrie Bridge and is likely at Halifax from late Wednesday morning. Further showers and storms are forecast across the catchment over the next few days, which may lead to additional river level rises across the catchment. This warning will be updated as required. Herbert River to Nash's Crossing: Moderate flooding is likely at Gleneagle Homestead. No observations are currently available for the Herbert River at Gleneagle Homestead. Based on the nearby automatic gauge, the river level is estimated to be above the minor flood level and rising. The Herbert River at Gleneagle Homestead is likely to reach around the moderate flood level (8.50 m) overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Further rises are possible with forecast rain. Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing: Minor flooding is possible along the Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing. The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is currently at 7.02 m and rising, with minor flooding. The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is expected to peak above the minor flood level (6.00 m) Wednesday afternoon. The Herbert River at Halifax is currently at 3.51 m and rising, below the minor flood level. The Herbert River at Halifax is likely to exceed the minor flood level (4.00 m) late Wednesday morning. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
