Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home. If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool. Maximum temperatures continuing in the low to mid forties west of the ranges, reaching the high forties about the southwest on Tuesday. Maximum temperatures reaching the low to high thirties along affected parts of the coast and ranges, increasing to the low forties on the ranges early to mid this week. Overnight minimum temperature in the mid twenties to around thirty west of the ranges and in the low to high teens along the coast and ranges. Severe to extreme heatwave conditions are expected to persist through this week before easing next weekend. Locations likely to be impacted include Armidale, Albury, Broken Hill, Bourke, Dubbo, Deniliquin, Moree, Orange, Tamworth and Wagga Wagga. The next heatwave warning will be issued by 3:00pm EDT on Tuesday 27 January 2026
