Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology New South Wales TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds for parts of Snowy Mountains Forecast District. Issued at 10:27 pm Sunday, 20 September 2026. Damaging winds occurring over alpine areas tonight and into early Monday. Weather Situation Increased north-westerly winds associated with the passage of a trough are tending damaging about alpine areas. DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas: Snowy Mountains For SNOWY MOUNTAINS above 1500 metres: DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 90 km/h are possible this evening. For ALPINE AREAS above 1900 metres: DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h are likely. DAMAGING WINDS are expected to ease early Monday morning. Locations which may be affected include Thredbo Top Station, Perisher Valley and Charlotte Pass. Sustained 80 km/h mean winds have been observed at Thredbo Top Station since around 7:40 pm. 98 km/h wind gust was recorded at Perisher Valley at 10:13 pm. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
