Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology New South Wales TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds for parts of Mid North Coast, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains, Australian Capital Territory, Northern Tablelands and Hunter Forecast Districts. Issued at 10:49 pm Tuesday, 2 June 2026. Damaging winds continuing over parts of the northern ranges, extending to the central and southern ranges throughout Wednesday. Blizzard conditions about the alpine peaks from Wednesday evening. Weather Situation A complex low pressure system sits in western Bass Strait. Strong northwesterly flow will extend over northern parts of the state ahead of a trough which is currently crossing NSW. Flow will then shift westerly behind the trough as the low continues to move east through Bass Strait, bringing periods of gusty winds to elevated parts of the Great Dividing Range Wednesday through to early Friday. DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas: Mid North Coast, Hunter, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Tablelands For NORTHERN RANGES: Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 90 km/h are possible, continuing through Wednesday morning. Winds in this area ease around midday on Wednesday before possibly redeveloping later on Wednesday. For SOUTHERN and CENTRAL RANGES below 1900 metres from Katoomba to Braidwood: Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 90 km/h are forecast from early Wednesday morning. For ALPINE AREAS in the western SNOWY MOUNTAINS and ACT: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts of around 110 km/h are forecast from Wednesday evening above 1900 metres. DAMAGING WINDS averaging 50 to 60 km/h with gusts to 90 km/h are possible below 1900 metres from late Wednesday. BLIZZARD conditions are possible above 1400 metres from Wednesday evening. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve. Locations which may be affected include Goulburn, Katoomba, Braidwood, Ebor, Nowendoc, Barrington Tops, Thredbo Tops and Mt Ginini. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
