Issued at 2:07 pm Tuesday, 23 December 2025. Severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall over parts of the northeast of the state today. Weather Situation A cold front combines with humid and unstable atmospheric conditions to promote severe thunderstorms. HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas: Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, North West Slopes and Plains and Northern Tablelands Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Coffs Harbour, Glen Innes, Inverell, Jackadgery, Nymboida and Emmaville. 49 mm was recorded at Glen Innes Research Station in 1 hour to 1:145 pm. 49 mm was recorded at Riverstone (Macintyre River) in 1 hour to 11:45 am. 50.0 mm was recorded at Inverell in 1 hour to 11:36 am The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
