Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology New South Wales TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds for parts of South Coast, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory Forecast Districts. Issued at 8:33 pm Saturday, 5 September 2026. Damaging winds continuing over southern parts of NSW and southern ACT. Weather Situation A low pressure system moving over the Tasman Sea is producing west to northwesterly winds, showers and thunderstorms over southeastern parts of the state. DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas: South Coast, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory For parts of the SNOWY MOUNTAINS, southern parts of the ACT, and parts of the SOUTH COAST RANGES: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are forecast to continue. For alpine areas above 1900 metres DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h are possible. BLIZZARD conditions are possible over alpine areas above 1900 metres during this evening and into early Sunday morning. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve. Winds are expected to ease across much of the warning area during the late evening, though damaging winds may redevelop overnight in parts of the Snowy Mountains and South Coast Ranges and continue into Sunday morning. Locations which may be affected include Braidwood, Araluen, Mount Ginini, Jindabyne, Perisher Valley and Charlotte Pass. Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Central Tablelands and North West Slopes and Plains districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.
