Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Major Flood Warning For The Daly River Issued at 10:39 AM ACST on Wednesday 04 February 2026 Flood Warning Number: 3 MINOR FLOODING RISING AT DALY RIVER POLICE STATION, WITH MODERATE FLOODING LIKELY FROM WEDNESDAY EVENING MAJOR FLOODING LIKELY OVER THE WEEKEND Moderate to locally heavy rainfall has been observed across the Daly River catchment over the last week, causing river level rises across the catchment. Elevated river levels are occurring along the Fergusson River and minor flooding is occurring along the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre. Further downstream, river levels are rising along the Daly River, with the main flood peak approaching Dorisvale Crossing. Minor flooding is occurring at Daly River Police Station, with moderate flooding likely from Wednesday evening. The river level is likely to exceed the major flood level over the weekend, with a major flood peak from early next week. Whilst the widespread heavy rainfall has now eased, further showers and storms are forecast over the next few days which may cause additional river level rises. The situation will continue to be closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required. A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Top End, Barkly, Tanami and Sturt Creek Districts. Daly River above Douglas River: River levels are elevated along the Daly River and tributaries upstream of the Douglas River. Fergusson River: River levels are elevated along the Fergusson River and tributaries. Lower Daly River: Major flooding is likely at Daly River Police Station. Significant river level rises have been recorded in the last few days with elevated river levels at Mount Nancar, Beeboom Crossing and Dorisvale Crossing. The Daly River at Daly River Police Station is currently at 12.74 m and rising, with minor flooding. The Daly River at Daly River Police Station is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (13.10 m) from Wednesday evening. The river is likely to exceed the major flood level (14.00 m) during the weekend, with a major flood peak from early next week. Forecasts will be updated as upstream peaks are observed. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs.
