Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Moderate Flood Warning For The Cooper Creek And Minor Flood Warning For The Thomson And Barcoo Rivers Issued at 12:46 PM AEST on Sunday 25 January 2026 Flood Warning Number: 28 MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT WINDORAH FROM MONDAY MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT CAMOOLA PARK, LONGREACH, STONEHENGE AND JUNDAH AND POSSIBLE AT RETREAT FROM MONDAY Along the Thomson River, the main flood peak has passed the Jundah area, where minor flooding is easing. As this peak moves into the Cooper Creek, moderate flooding is possible at Windorah from Monday. Further upstream along the Thomson River, a second flood peak is approaching Longreach where renewed minor flooding continues. Renewed rises are likely along the Thomson River downstream of Longreach into the coming week as these flows arrive. The main flood peak along the Barcoo River is approaching Glenlock. As this peak moves downstream, minor flooding may occur at Retreat from Monday. Further areas of rainfall and showers are forecast over parts of the catchment over the next couple days but are not expected to significantly impact current river levels at this stage. Peak forecasts will be refined as upstream peaks are observed. Thomson River: Minor flooding is occurring along the Thomson River at Camoola Park, Longreach, Bogewong, Stonehenge and Jundah. The Thomson River at Camoola Park was at 3.15 m around 6:00 am Saturday and falling, with minor flooding. The Thomson River at Camoola Park is likely to remain above the minor flood level (2.00 m) for the next few days. The Thomson River at Longreach is currently at 3.76 m and approaching a peak, above the minor flood level. The Thomson River at Longreach is likely to remain above the minor flood level (3.30 m) for the next few days. The Thomson River at Stonehenge was at 2.23 m around 8:20 am Saturday and falling, with minor flooding. The Thomson River at Stonehenge is likely to remain above the minor flood level (2.00 m) for the remainder of Sunday. Renewed rises are possible into the coming week, as upstream flows arrive. The Thomson River at Jundah was at 3.78 m around 4:00 pm Saturday and falling, with minor flooding. The Thomson River at Jundah is likely to remain above the minor flood level (2.50 m) for the next few days. Barcoo River to Isisford: No further flooding expected along the Barcoo River to Isisford. No observations are currently available for the Alice River at Barcaldine. Based on nearby automatic gauges, it is estimated that the river level is below the minor flood level and falling. The Alice River at Barcaldine is likely to remain below the minor flood level (3.00 m). The Barcoo River at Isisford Post Office is currently at 3.61 m and falling, below the minor flood level. The Barcoo River at Isisford Post Office is likely to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m). Barcoo River downstream of Isisford: Renewed minor flooding is possible at Retreat from Monday. The Barcoo River at Retreat is currently at 0.89 m and steady, below the minor flood level. The Barcoo River at Retreat may exceed the minor flood level (2.14 m) during Monday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive. Cooper Creek: Moderate flooding is possible along Cooper Creek from Monday. No observations are currently available for the Cooper Creek at Windorah. However, it is estimate the creek level is around the minor flood level (3.00 m) and rising. The Cooper Creek at Windorah may reach around the moderate flood level (4.57 m) during Monday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.
