MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT WINTON FROM WEDNESDAY
MINOR FLOODING CONTINUING AT BIRDSVILLE
Moderate to heavy rainfall was observed across parts of the Western River catchment over the weekend. This has resulted in river and creek level rises, with minor flooding possible at Winton overnight Tuesday into Wednesday and moderate flooding possible from Wednesday.
Further downstream, moderate flooding is falling slowly along the Diamantina River at Diamantina lakes. A flood peak is currently approaching Monkira. As these flows move downstream renewed river rises are possible at Birdsville over the coming week, where minor flooding is occurring.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Gulf Country and Cape York Peninsula.
Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes:
The Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes is currently at 5.20 m and falling, above the moderate flood level (4.00 m) and well above the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road Causeway level (2.10 m).
Western River:
Moderate flooding is possible along the Western River at Winton.
No observations are currently available for the Western River at Winton. However, it is estimated that the river level is below the minor flood level.
The Western River at Winton may exceed the minor flood level (1.50 m) overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. The river may reach around the moderate flood level (2.00 m) during Wednesday.
Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes:
Minor flooding is occurring at Roseberth, Monkira and Birdsville.
The Diamantina River at Birdsville Police Station was at 5.40 m and falling at 9:00 am Tuesday, with minor flooding.
The Diamantina River at Birdsville Police Station is expected to remain above the minor flood level (4.00 m) during the next few days. Renewed rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.

Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
