Major Flood Warning For The Georgina River And Eyre Creek
Issued at 02:55 PM AEST on Friday 27 February 2026
Flood Warning Number: 43
RIVER LEVELS STEADY AROUND THE MAJOR FLOOD LEVEL AT MARION DOWNS, WITH FURTHER RISES AND A SIGNIFICANT MAJOR FLOOD PEAK LIKELY NEXT WEEK
MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GLENGYLE FROM THE WEEKEND AND MODERATE FLOODING OCCURRING AT BEDOURIE
RAPID RIVER AND CREEK LEVEL RISES AND FURTHER FLOODING POSSIBLE ACROSS THE GEORGINA CATCHMENT OVER THE COMING DAYS
Areas of heavy rainfall are forecast to continue across parts of the Georgina River and Eyre Creek catchments for the next couple days, with significant rainfall and river level rises having been observed across the catchment over the last several days.
Along the Upper Georgina River, a flood peak is currently near Urandangi, and significant level rises are occurring at Roxborough Downs, with levels approaching the major flood level. These flows, in addition to inflows from neighbouring tributaries, have caused near-major flooding at Marion Downs. Further rises are expected over the coming days as additional upstream flows arrive.
Further downstream along Eyre Creek, an earlier peak is approaching Bedourie, where moderate flooding is occurring. River level rises are occurring at Glengyle, where major flooding is possible from the weekend.
Further rainfall is expected across the catchment for the remainder of Friday before easing into the weekend. This is likely to cause additional river rises, localised flooding and overland inundation. Road access may be affected, and some communities may become isolated. The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required.
Peak forecasts will be provided as upstream peaks are observed.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for heavy rainfall for parts of the lower catchment.
