Tropical Cyclone Information Bulletin
Issued at 10:45 PM EST on Friday 10 April 2026
At 10 pm AEST Friday, Tropical Cyclone Maila (Category 1) with central pressure 991 hPa was located near latitude 8.1 south longitude 154.2 east, which is about 650 km west northwest of Honiara and 790 km east northeast of Port Moresby. The cyclone is moving northwest at 7 kilometres per hour. Tropical Cyclone Maila remains slow moving in the Solomon Sea and has weakened to category 1. Maila is expected to gradually weaken over the coming days as it moves southwest, potentially affecting southeastern parts of Papua New Guinea before moving into the Coral Sea. From late Sunday or early Monday, Maila may track west-southwest into the Coral Sea and towards the Far North Queensland coast, though it is likely to weaken below tropical cyclone intensity before reaching the coast. Another possible scenario is that Maila weakens in the Solomon Sea or over southeastern Papua New Guinea during the weekend and does not cross the Queensland coast as a tropical cyclone. The next Information Bulletin will be issued by 5:00 am AEST Saturday 11 April.
