Moderate Flood Warning For The Western River And Flood Warning For The Diamantina River

RENEWED RISES TO NEAR MODERATE LEVELS POSSIBLE AT WINTON FROM OVERNIGHT MONDAY INTO TUESDAY
Along the Western River at Winton, river levels have continued to fall and are now just around the minor flood level. Multiple renewed rises are expected following recent rainfall. Renewed rises to near the moderate flood level are possible from overnight Monday into Tuesday as upstream floodwaters arrive.
Along the Diamantina River, river levels are above the moderate flood level and rising at Diamantina Lakes. A below minor flood peak has passed Birdsville, however renewed river level rises are likely from next week with the combination of upstream flood waters arriving and locally heavy rainfall.
Showers and storms are likely over parts of the catchment for the next few days which may cause further river level rises in some areas. This warning will be updated as required.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for Heavy Rainfall in the far lower reaches of the catchment, including Birdsville.
Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes:
The Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes is currently at 4.21 m and rising, above the moderate flood level (4.00 m) and well above the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road Causeway level (2.10 m).
Western River:
Renewed moderate flooding is possible along the Western River at Winton.
The Western River at Winton is currently at 1.50 m and steady, with minor flooding.
Renewed river level rises are possible and the Western River at Winton may reach around the moderate flood level (2.00 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday.
Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes:
Minor flooding is occurring at Monkira. River level rises are expected along the Diamantina River downstream as upstream flows arrive, and with forecast locally heavy rainfall.
Flood Safety Advice:
Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
