Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Major Flood Warning For The Georgina River And Eyre Creek Issued at 02:50 PM AEST on Tuesday 03 March 2026 Flood Warning Number: 48 MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT BEDOURIE MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT MARION DOWNS WITH FURTHER RISES AND A SIGNIFICANT MAJOR FLOOD PEAK EXPECTED FROM FRIDAY MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GLENGYLE FROM LATE WEDNESDAY Significant rainfall was observed across the Georgina River and Eyre Creek catchments during last week, with significant river level rises occurring. Along the Upper Georgina River, major flood peaks have passed Roxborough and are approaching Glenormiston, while a moderate flood peak was observed early Monday morning along the Burke River at Boulia. These flows, in addition to initial inflows from neighbouring tributaries, have caused initial rises leading to major flooding at Marion Downs, where the main flood peak is expected from around Friday as upstream floodwaters continue to arrive. Further downstream along Eyre Creek, inflows from King Creek and neighbouring tributaries have caused initial rises ahead of the main upper Georgina flood peak. Major flooding is occurring at Bedourie, with further rises expected as upstream flows arrive. Downstream at Glengyle, major flooding may develop from late Wednesday. Significant renewed rises are expected in the coming weeks at Bedourie and Glengyle as floodwaters arrive from the upper catchment. Additional river rises, localised flooding and overland inundation remain possible across the catchment as floodwaters move downstream. Road access is likely to be affected, and communities may become isolated. The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required. Georgina River to Marion Downs: Major flooding occurring at Marion Downs, Roxborough Downs and Glenormiston. The Georgina River at Marion Downs is currently at 5.42 m and rising, with major flooding. Further rises are expected along the Georgina River at Marion Downs over the coming days, with a significant major flood peak likely to arrive from around Friday. Georgina River downstream of Marion Downs: River level rises are occurring along the Georgina River downstream of Marion Downs. Major flooding is occurring along King Creek at Cluny. Eyre Creek: Major flooding is occurring along the Eyre Creek at Bedourie. Major flooding is possible at Glengyle. The Eyre Creek at Bedourie is currently at 5.00 m and steady, with major flooding. The Eyre Creek at Bedourie is expected to remain above the major flood level (5.00 m) for the next few days. Further rises are likely over the coming weeks as upstream flows arrive. The Eyre Creek at Glengyle is currently at 3.70 m and rising, with moderate flooding. The Eyre Creek at Glengyle may exceed the major flood level (4.00 m) from around late Wednesday.
