MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT STONEHENGE, JUNDAH AND ISISFORD FROM OVERNIGHT WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY
MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE ALONG COOPER CREEK LATER THIS WEEK
RENEWED MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING ALONG THE THOMSON RIVER AT CAMOOLA PARK AND POSSIBLE AT LONGREACH FROM THURSDAY
Along the Thomson River, the main flood peak is approaching Stonehenge, where the river is likely to peak near the moderate flood level overnight Wednesday into Thursday. As this peak travels downstream, moderate flooding may develop at Jundah overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Minor flooding is possible at Windorah later this week as this peak travels into Cooper Creek.
Further upstream along the Thomson River, a second, slightly lower peak has now passed Muttaburra and is now approaching Camoola Park, where renewed river level rises have been observed and minor flooding is likely to peak around Friday. As this peak moves downstream, renewed minor flooding may develop at Longreach from Thursday.
Along the Alice River, a flood peak is now approaching Barcaldine, where minor flooding may develop from overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Further downstream along the Barcoo River, moderate flooding is possible at Isisford from overnight Wednesday into Thursday, and minor flooding is possible at Retreat from the weekend.
Further areas of rainfall and showers are forecast over parts of the catchment over the next few days which may cause additional river level rises. The situation is being monitored and the warning will be updated as required.
Peak forecasts will be refined as upstream peaks are observed.
Thomson River:
Moderate flooding is possible along the Thomson River at Stonehenge and Jundah. Moderate flooding is occurring at Bogewong. Renewed minor flooding is possible at Longreach and is occurring at Camoola Park.
The Thomson River at Camoola Park is currently at 3.00 m and steady, with minor flooding.
The Thomson River at Camoola Park is likely to peak above the minor flood level (2.00 m) around Friday.
The Thomson River at Longreach is currently at 2.61 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Thomson River at Longreach may exceed the minor flood level (3.30 m) during Thursday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.
The Thomson River at Stonehenge is currently at 2.69 m and steady, with minor flooding.
The Thomson River at Stonehenge is likely to peak near the moderate flood level (3.00 m) overnight Wednesday into Thursday.
The Thomson River at Jundah is currently at 2.74 m and rising, with minor flooding.
The Thomson River at Jundah may exceed the moderate flood level (4.00 m) overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.
Barcoo River to Isisford:
Moderate flooding is possible along the Barcoo River at Isisford. Minor flooding is possible at Barcaldine and Retreat.
No observations are currently available for the Alice River at Barcaldine. Based on nearby automatic gauges, it is likely that the river level is below the minor flood level and falling.
The Alice River at Barcaldine may exceed the minor flood level (3.00 m) overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.
As at 12:00 pm Wednesday AEST, the Barcoo River at Isisford Post Office was at 4.15 m and rising, with minor flooding.
The Barcoo River at Isisford Post Office may exceed the moderate flood level (5.00 m) overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.
Barcoo River downstream of Isisford:
Renewed minor flooding is possible from the weekend.
The Barcoo River at Retreat is currently at 1.07 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Barcoo River at Retreat may reach around the minor flood level (2.14 m) during the weekend. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.
Cooper Creek:
Minor flooding is possible along Cooper Creek from later this week.
Cooper Creek at Windorah is below the minor flood level and steady.
The Cooper Creek at Windorah may reach the minor flood level (3.00 m) from around Friday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.
