Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Moderate Flood Warning For The Haughton River Catchment Issued at 04:13 PM AEST on Saturday 07 March 2026 Flood Warning Number: 2 MODERATE FLOODING LIKELY AT GIRU FROM LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON Moderate rainfall has been observed across the Haughton catchment since Friday morning. River levels peaked along the Haughton River at Mount Piccaninny on Saturday morning, and the main flood peak is now nearing the Powerline river gauge. Moderate flooding is likely to develop at Giru from late Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening. A Flood Watch is current for most of Queensland. Haughton River: Minor flooding is likely along the Haughton River at Giru. Minor flooding is occurring at Mt Piccaninny. The Haughton River at Giru is currently at 1.83 m and rising, with minor flooding. The Haughton River at Giru may peak near the moderate flood level (2.10 m) late Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs.
