Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Minor Flood Warning For The Diamantina River Issued at 12:11 PM AEST on Friday 17 April 2026 Flood Warning Number: 88 MINOR FLOODING CONTINUING AT BIRDSVILLE Minor flooding is continuing at Birdsville and slowly easing at Roseberth Station. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast across the upper parts of the Diamantina River catchment for the remainder of Friday and into Saturday. Creek and river level rises and localised flooding are possible with the heaviest rainfall around the Western River. Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes: Minor flooding is occurring at Roseberth Station and Birdsville. The Diamantina River at Birdsville Police Station is currently at 5.30 m and steady, with minor flooding. The Diamantina River at Birdsville Police Station is likely to remain above the minor flood level (4.00 m) over the weekend. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs.
