Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Moderate Flood Warning For The Thomson River Issued at 11:45 AM AEST on Friday 09 January 2026 Flood Warning Number: 8 MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT CAMOOLA PARK AND LONGREACH FROM THE WEEKEND Rainfall over recent days and weeks has caused river level rises across the upper Thomson River catchment. Minor flooding is occurring at Camoola Park where moderate flooding is possible from Saturday. Downstream at Longreach minor flooding is likely over the weekend and moderate flooding is possible early next week as upstream floodwaters arrive. Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible from this weekend, which may cause renewed river level rises from early next week. This situation is being closely monitored, and warnings will be updated as required. Thomson River: Moderate flooding may develop along the upper Thomson River at Camoola Park and Longreach. The Thomson River at Camoola Park is currently at 3.60 m and rising, with minor flooding. The Thomson River at Camoola Park may reach around the moderate flood level (4.00 m) during Saturday. The Thomson River at Longreach is currently at 2.40 m and rising, below the minor flood level. The Thomson River at Longreach is likely to exceed the minor flood level (3.30 m) over the weekend. The river may reach around the moderate flood level (4.30 m) early next week. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads. Check the ABC and local media for updates.
