Extreme heatwaves can be dangerous for everyone.
Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.
Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.
If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool.
Maximum temperatures in the high thirties to low forties over northern Victoria and in the mid twenties to mid thirties over southern Victoria today, decreasing significantly throughout on Sunday. Overnight minimum temperatures generally in the low to mid teens Saturday night, decreasing to between five and ten degrees in most areas for Sunday night.
Severe to extreme heatwave conditions will ease by Sunday as a milder southwest to southerly flow extends across the state.
Heatwave conditions have already eased to low over West and South Gippsland, and will ease further. Locations likely to be impacted include Albury-Wodonga, Bright, Corryong, Mildura, Mansfield, Omeo, Wangaratta and Yarrawonga.
The next heatwave warning will be issued by 3:00pm EDT on Sunday 01 February 2026
