Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Western Australia TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds for parts of South West and South Coastal districts. Issued at 10:43 pm Monday, 20 April 2026. Damaging wind gusts are expected over southwest parts of the state tonight. Weather Situation A cold front is moving across the southwest of the state this evening, bringing gusty showers and possible thunderstorms. Warnings for Monday 20 April DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas: South West and South Coastal DAMAGING WIND GUSTS with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are possible along and behind the cold front tonight and into early Tuesday morning across coastal parts of the South West and South Coastal districts. This is the first significant cold front of the year. Damaging wind gusts are forecast to ease during Tuesday morning. Locations which may be affected include Margaret River, Augusta, Dunsborough, Walpole and Windy Harbour. 102 km/h wind gust was recorded at Cape Leeuwin at 6:23 pm. Cancellation for the following areas: Lower West The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. * Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows. * Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. * If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water. * Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. * Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. * Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris. * Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live. * Assess your home, car and property for damage. * If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs. * If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.
