Major Flood Warning For The Georgina River And Eyre Creek
Issued at 02:40 PM AEST on Sunday 01 March 2026
Flood Warning Number: 45
RIVER LEVELS STEADY NEAR THE MAJOR FLOOD LEVEL AT MARION DOWNS, WITH FURTHER RISES AND A SIGNIFICANT MAJOR FLOOD PEAK LIKELY FROM AROUND THURSDAY
MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GLENGYLE AROUND WEDNESDAY
MODERATE FLOODING OCCURRING AT BEDOURIE, WITH RENEWED RISES LIKELY FROM AROUND FRIDAY
Significant rainfall and river level rises have been observed across the Georgina and Eyre Creek catchments over the last several days.
Along the Upper Georgina River, a flood peak is currently around Urandangi. Major flooding is occurring at Roxborough Downs, with river levels continuing to rise. These flows, in addition to initial inflows from neighbouring tributaries, have caused near-major flooding at Marion Downs. A significant major flood peak is expected to arrive from around Thursday as floodwaters from Urandangi and Roxborough Downs travel downstream.
Further downstream along Eyre Creek, inflows from King Creek and neighbouring tributaries have caused initial rises ahead of the main upper Georgina peak. River levels are steady above moderate flood levels at Bedourie and Glengyle, with major flooding is possible at Glengyle around Wednesday. Significant renewed rises are expected during the coming weeks at Bedourie and Glengyle as floodwaters arrive from the upper parts of the catchment.
Additional river rises, localised flooding and overland inundation remain possible across the catchment as floodwaters move downstream. Road access is likely to be affected, and communities may become isolated. The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required.

Eyre Creek:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the Eyre Creek at Bedourie. Major flooding is possible at Glengyle.
The Eyre Creek at Bedourie was 4.50 m and steady at 9:00 am Saturday, with moderate flooding.
The Eyre Creek at Bedourie is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (4.00 m) for the next few days. Further rises are expected as floodwaters arrive from the upper Georgina and neighbouring tributaries.
The Eyre Creek at Glengyle was 3.40 m at 9:00 am Sunday and steady, with moderate flooding.
