Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy Rainfall
for parts of Simpson and Lasseter districts.
Issued at 10:45 pm Monday, 16 March 2026.
Heavy rainfall is continuing through the south.
Weather Situation
A tropical low situated about the border with SA is feeding rich tropical moisture to southern NT. Meanwhile an upper trough is moving across southwestern SA. The combination of these two systems will continue to bring the risk of heavy rainfall to southern parts of the NT tonight and into Tuesday morning.
Warnings for Monday 16 March
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Simpson and Lasseter
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the Lasseter and Simpson. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 50 and 80 mm are likely. 24-hourly rainfall totals between 80 and 120 mm are likely, with falls up to 160 mm possible.
Heavy rainfall is expected to ease during Tuesday.

Locations which may be affected include Kulgera, Hermannsburg, Finke, Titjikala and Simpson District east of Finke.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Tanami district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.
71.0 mm was recorded at Yulara in the 6 hours to 3:00 pm.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
* secure loose outside objects and seek shelter when conditions deteriorate
* pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
* create your own sandbags if there is flooding, by using pillow cases or shopping bags filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home
* stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways
* ensure pets and animals are safe
* be prepared in case of power outages, have an emergency kit with a radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 am ACST Tuesday.
