Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Tasmania TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds for King Island, Furneaux Islands and parts of Western, North East, North West Coast and Central North Forecast Districts. Issued at 4:56 pm Sunday, 12 July 2026. Damaging winds developing on Monday about western and northern Tasmania Weather Situation Strong westerly flow is expected to develop in the wake of a cold front crossing the state on Monday morning. A trough will pass over Tasmania during Monday afternoon, reinvigorating the flow particularly in the north, before a gradual easing overnight. DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas: King Island, Furneaux Islands, Western, North East, North West Coast and Central North For SOUTHWESTERN TASMANIA: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 110 km/h are likely to develop during Monday morning. For the REMAINDER: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 100 km/h are likely from Monday afternoon, with the strongest gusts associated with shower activity. Winds are forecast to ease below warning thresholds about the southwest early Monday evening and the remainder by late Monday night. Locations which may be affected include Strahan, Currie, Whitemark, Bridport and Strathgordon. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Supervise children closely. * Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings. * Manage pets and livestock. * Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment. * Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004. * Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving. * Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
