ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES for Carpentaria

Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Northern Territory Coastal Hazard Warning for ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES for parts of Carpentaria district. Issued at 3:33 pm Saturday, 21 March 2026. Elevated sea levels for the southwestern Gulf of Carpentaria Weather Situation Elevated sea levels as Tropic Cyclone Narelle moves westwards over the Gulf of Carpentaria. ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES for the following areas: Carpentaria ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES which may lead to sea water flooding of low-lying coastal areas expected within the region including King Ash Bay and Bing Bong Port. Tides are likely to rise well above the normal high tide mark during Sunday's high tides. The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should: * be aware that abnormally high tides could cause minor flooding at the coast * create your own sandbags if there is flooding, by using pillow cases or shopping bags filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home * stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways * ensure pets and animals are safe * be prepared in case of power outages, have an emergency kit with a radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit * for emergency help in floods, storms and cyclones, contact the NTES on 132 500.
