Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Major Flood Warning For The Daintree And Mossman Rivers Issued at 01:24 AM AEST on Friday 06 March 2026 Flood Warning Number: 5 MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT DAINTREE VILLAGE EARLY FRIDAY MORNING ELEVATED RIVER LEVELS OCCURRING ALONG THE BLOOMFIELD RIVER Heavy rainfall since Thursday afternoon has caused rapid river level rises across the Daintree and Bloomfield River catchments. Major flooding is possible at Daintree Village early Friday morning. Elevated river levels are occurring along the Bloomfield River at China Camp. River level rises are also being observed along the Mossman River at Mossman. Further rainfall is forecast across the Daintree and Mossman catchments during Friday, which may lead to further river level rises. This situation is being closely monitored, and this warning will be updated as required. A Severe Weather Warning for heavy, locally intense rainfall is current for parts of the Peninsula and North Tropical Coast and Tablelands Forecast Districts. A Flood Watch is current for North Tropical Coast and parts of Cape York Peninsula, Central Coast, Capricornia and Carpentaria catchments. Daintree River: Major flooding is possible along the Daintree River. Major flooding is occurring at Bairds. Elevated river levels are occurring along the Bloomfield River at China Camp. The Daintree River at Daintree Village is currently at 8.75 m and rising, with moderate flooding. The Daintree River at Daintree Village may reach around the major flood level (9.00 m) early Friday morning. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall. Mossman River: Elevated river levels are occurring along the Mossman River. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads. Check the ABC and local media for updates.
