DAMAGING Surf for Sydney Metropolitan, Illawarra & South Coast

Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology New South Wales Coastal Hazard Warning for DAMAGING SURF for parts of Metropolitan, Illawarra and South Coast Forecast Districts. Issued at 10:56 am Friday, 16 January 2026. Damaging Surf for NSW Weather Situation A low moving off the coast of NSW is bringing strong to gale force southeasterly winds, and elevated waves. DAMAGING SURF for the following areas: Metropolitan, Illawarra and South Coast DAMAGING SURF CONDITIONS which may lead to coastal erosion and localised damage to coastal infrastructure are expected between South of Cronulla and Batemans Bay from Friday evening, particularly for southeast facing beaches. Beach conditions in these areas could be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas. Damaging surf conditions are expected to ease during Saturday evening. Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Batemans Bay, Kiama, Ulladulla, Bulli and Port Kembla. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Don't walk, ride or drive through flood water. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions.
