Severe Thunderstorm Warning (Heavy Rainfall) for parts of Illawarra and South Coast

Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology New South Wales TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Heavy Rainfall for parts of Illawarra and South Coast Forecast Districts. Issued at 8:56 pm Thursday, 15 January 2026. Heavy rainfall still possible on the south coast north of Burrill Lake. Weather Situation A warm, moist, unstable atmosphere and a surface trough is producing thunderstorms across the state today. HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas: Illawarra and South Coast Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Huskisson and Ulladulla. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Snowy Mountains and Northern Tablelands districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly. 67MM WAS RECORDED AT BROGO DAM IN THE 60 MINUTES TO 5:05 PM 3-4cm hail was observed at Delegate around 4pm. Cancellation for the following areas: Central Tablelands,Hunter,Northern Tablelands,Mid North Coast,North West Slopes and Plains,Southern Tablelands,Sydney Metropolitan,Snowy Mountains The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
