Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology New South Wales TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Heavy Rainfall for Australian Capital Territory and parts of Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Snowy Mountains Forecast Districts. Issued at 3:07 pm Monday, 9 February 2026. Isolated heavy falls near the ACT this afternoon. Weather Situation slow-moving thunderstorms have developed near the ACT in a moist airmass. These thunderstorms are expected to ease later this afternoon or early evening. HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas: Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Canberra, Mount Ginini, Captains Flat, Queanbeyan and Tidbinbilla. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
