Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology New South Wales TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Heatwave Warning Issued at 02:25 PM EDT on Thursday 18 December 2025 Valid for Thursday 18 December 2025 to Sunday 21 December 2025 Warning for the following areas: Mid North Coast, Illawarra, South Coast and Snowy Mountains Warning for the following areas: Northern Rivers, Hunter, Northern Tablelands, Metropolitan, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes and Riverina Safety Advice: Extreme heatwaves can be dangerous for everyone. Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home. If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool. In inland and northern districts expect maximum temperatures in the high thirties to low forties and overnight minimum temperatures in the high teens to mid twenties. Heatwave conditions are expected to increase over the weekend before easing mid to late next week. About the southern coast and ranges maximum temperatures in the high twenties to high thirties. Overnight minimum temperatures generally in the mid to high teens. Cooler temperatures are expected to gradually develop from the south with heatwave conditions in these areas expected to peak at the end of this week and then begin to ease later over the weekend. Locations likely to be impacted include Armidale, Camden, Campbelltown, Grafton, Goulburn, Hornsby, Lismore, Liverpool, Orange and Richmond. The next heatwave warning will be issued by 3:00pm EDT on Friday 19 December 2025
