Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Northern Territory TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Heatwave Warning Issued at 01:46 PM CST on Tuesday 13 January 2026 Valid for Tuesday 13 January 2026 to Friday 16 January 2026 Warning for the following areas: Gregory and Tanami Warning for the following areas: Daly, Arnhem, Carpentaria, Barkly and Lasseter Safety Advice: Extreme heatwaves can be dangerous for everyone. Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home. If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool. Maximum temperatures in the high thirties to mid forties and overnight minimum temperatures in the?mid twenties to the low thirties over central western parts. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue through the week though they may begin to ease in eastern parts towards the middle to end of this week. Locations likely to be impacted include Ali Curung, Borroloola, Daly Waters, Elliott, Kaltukatjara, Lajamanu, Nauiyu, Tennant Creek, Walungurru and Yuendumu. The next heatwave warning will be issued by 3:00pm CST on Wednesday 14 January 2026
