Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Initial Minor Flood Warning For The Mulgrave River Issued at 07:29 PM AEST on Thursday 05 March 2026 Flood Warning Number: 1 MINOR FLOODING LIKELY AT PEETS BRIDGE LATE THURSDAY NIGHT AND POSSIBLE AT GORDONVALE EARLY FRIDAY MORNING Moderate to heavy rainfall recorded since Thursday afternoon has resulted in river level rises across the Mulgrave and Russell catchments. Minor flooding is likely at Peets Bridge late Thursday night and possible at Gordonvale early Friday morning. Further showers and storms are forecast over the next few days, which may lead to further river level rises and flooding across the catchment. This warning will be updated as required. A Severe Weather Warning for heavy, locally intense rainfall is current for parts of the Peninsula and North Tropical Coast and Tablelands Forecast Districts. A Flood Watch is current for North Tropical Coast and parts of Cape York Peninsula, Central Coast, Capricornia and Carpentaria catchments. Mulgrave River: Minor flooding is likely along the Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge and possible at Gordonvale. Minor flooding is occurring at The Fisheries. The Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge is currently at 3.14 m and rising, below the minor flood level. The Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge is likely to exceed the minor flood level (5.00 m) late Thursday night. Further rises are possible with forecast rain. The Mulgrave River at Gordonvale is currently at 8.70 m and rising, below the minor flood level. The Mulgrave River at Gordonvale may exceed the minor flood level (12.00 m) early Friday morning. Further rises are possible with forecast rain. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads. Check the ABC and local media for updates.
