Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Moderate Flood Warning For The Thomson River And Cooper Creek And Minor Flood Warning For The Barcoo River Issued at 02:52 PM AEST on Thursday 22 January 2026 Flood Warning Number: 25 MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT JUNDAH DURING FRIDAY AND AT WINDORAH FROM SUNDAY RENEWED MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT CAMOOLA PARK AND STONEHENGE AND POSSIBLE AT LONGREACH FROM THURSDAY MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT ISISFORD AND POSSIBLE AT RETREAT FROM SUNDAY Along the Thomson River, the main flood peak is now downstream of Stonehenge, where the river peaked above the minor flood level during Wednesday. Downstream, river levels are likely to peak near the moderate flood level at Jundah around Friday morning. Moderate flooding is possible at Windorah around Sunday as this peak travels into Cooper Creek. Further upstream along the Thomson River, renewed minor flooding continues at Camoola Park, where a peak is likely to arrive around Friday. This peak may cause renewed minor flooding at Longreach overnight Thursday into Friday. Along the Alice River, a flood peak is now between Jericho and Barcaldine, and minor flooding may develop at Barcaldine from overnight Thursday into Friday. Further downstream along the Barcoo River, river levels are steady at a peak above the minor flood level at Isisford, and these flows may cause minor flooding at Retreat from Sunday. Further areas of rainfall and showers are forecast over parts of the catchment over the next couple days but are not expected to significantly impact current river levels at this stage. Peak forecasts will be refined as upstream peaks are observed. Thomson River: Moderate flooding is possible along the Thomson River at Jundah. Moderate flooding is occurring at Bogewong. Renewed minor flooding is possible at Longreach and is occurring at Camoola Park. As at 17:45 AEST Tuesday evening, the Thomson River at Camoola Park was at 3.00 m and rising slowly. The Thomson River at Camoola Park is likely to peak above the minor flood level (2.00 m) around Friday. The Thomson River at Longreach is currently at 2.88 m and rising slowly, below the minor flood level. The Thomson River at Longreach may exceed the minor flood level (3.30 m) overnight Thursday into Friday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive. The Thomson River at Stonehenge peaked at around 2.69 m during Wednesday, with minor flooding. As at 06:15 AEST Thursday morning, the river was at 2.59 m and falling slowly, with minor flooding. The Thomson River at Stonehenge is likely to remain above the minor flood level (2.00 m) for the remainder of Thursday into Friday. As at 07:30 AEST Thursday morning, the Thomson River at Jundah was at 3.76 m and rising, with minor flooding. The Thomson River at Jundah is likely to peak near the moderate flood level (4.00 m) around Friday morning. Barcoo River to Isisford: Minor flooding is occurring along the Barcoo River at Isisford. Minor flooding is possible at Barcaldine and Retreat. No observations are currently available for the Alice River at Barcaldine. Based on nearby automatic gauges, it is likely that the river level is below the minor flood level and falling. Renewed rises to the minor flood level (3.00 m) are possible along the Alice River at Barcaldine overnight Thursday into Friday. As at 12:00 AEST Thursday afternoon, the Barcoo River at Isisford Post Office was steady at a peak near 4.55 m, with minor flooding. The Barcoo River at Isisford Post Office is likely to remain above the minor flood level (4.00 m) for the remainder of Thursday into Friday. Barcoo River downstream of Isisford: Renewed minor flooding is possible from Sunday. The Barcoo River at Retreat is currently at 1.01 m and steady, below the minor flood level. The Barcoo River at Retreat may exceed the minor flood level (2.14 m) during Sunday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive. Cooper Creek: Moderate flooding is possible along Cooper Creek from Sunday. Cooper Creek at Windorah is currently below the minor flood level (3.00 m) and steady. The Cooper Creek at Windorah may exceed the minor flood level (3.00 m) around Saturday. The creek may reach the moderate flood level (4.57 m) around Sunday.
