The flood peak along the Cloncurry River has passed through Canobie, upstream of its junction with the Flinders River. River levels continue rising along the lower Flinders River and its tributaries, with major flooding at Walkers Bend continuing, as floodwaters from both the Cloncurry and Flinders rivers arrive. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast over the weekend and into next week, with heavy rainfall possible, which may cause further river level rises across the catchment and flooding in the upper Flinders catchment. A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for parts of Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and North West Forecast Districts. A Flood Watch is current for most of Queensland. Flinders River to Richmond: Minor flooding may occur along the upper Flinders River to Richmond from Sunday with forecast rain. No current river level observations are available for the Flinders River at Richmond Post Office. The river level is expected to be below the minor flood level. The Flinders River at Richmond Post Office may exceed the minor flood level (5.00 m) from Sunday with forecast rain. Higher levels are possible. Flinders River downstream of Richmond: River levels are elevated along the Flinders River downstream of Richmond, with major flooding continuing at Walkers Bend. The Flinders River at Walkers Bend is currently at 8.89 m and steady, with major flooding. The Flinders River at Walkers Bend is expected to remain above the major flood level (8.00 m) into next week. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs.
