Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Moderate Flood Warning For The Western River And Flood Warning For The Diamantina River Issued at 01:04 PM AEST on Tuesday 30 December 2025 Flood Warning Number: 6 MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT WINTON LATER THIS WEEK RIVER LEVELS ARE ABOVE THE SPRINGVALE DIAMANTINA LAKES CAUSEWAY AT DIAMANTINA LAKES Recent rainfall has caused river level rises and flooding across the Western and Diamantina Rivers. Further moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast over the next few days. River levels are expected to remain elevated and further river level rises are possible. This situation is being closely monitored, and this warning will be updated as required. A Flood Watch is current for parts of North and Northwest Queensland. Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes: The Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes is at 3.51 m and steady, above the level of the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road Causeway (2.10 m). The river level is expected to remain above the causeway into next week. Western River: Minor flooding is likely occurring at Winton, with the possibility of moderate flooding with forecast rainfall. The Western River at Winton is currently at 1.40 m and relatively steady, below the minor flood level. The Western River at Winton may reach around the minor flood level (1.50 m) during Wednesday. The river may reach around the moderate flood level (2.00 m) late this week. Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes: River level rises are occurring along the lower Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes, with minor flooding occurring at Monkira. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs.
