Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Heatwave Warning Issued at 02:06 PM EST on Monday 26 January 2026 Valid for Monday 26 January 2026 to Thursday 29 January 2026 Warning for the following areas: Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast Safety Advice: Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home. If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool. Maximum temperatures in the high thirties and low forties over the Southeast Coast and Wide Bay and Burnett, and reaching the low to high forties further inland. Maximum temperatures over the Southeast coast and Wide Bay and Burnett will decrease to high twenties to high thirties from Tuesday. Overnight minimum temperatures in the high teens to high twenties, reaching the low thirties far inland over the Channel Country. Severe heatwave conditions through most of southern QLD are expected to persist well into this week. Severe heatwave conditions over the Southeast Coast and wide Bay and Burnett are expected to ease from Tuesday. Locations likely to be impacted include Birdsville, Charleville, Goondiwindi, Ipswich, Kingaroy, Longreach, Roma, Stanthorpe, Thargomindah and Warwick.
