Flood Warning For The Inland Rivers Sa
Issued at 10:43 AM ACDT on Sunday 01 March 2026
Flood Warning Number: 6
FLOODING EASING ALONG THE COOPER CREEK AT INNAMINCKA
ELEVATED RIVER LEVELS OCCURRING ALONG THE WARBURTON RIVER
Heavy rainfall over the past week in the Cullyamurra and Innamincka area has caused local creek level rises at Cullyamurra Waterhole, which has flooded the causeway at Innamincka and led to widespread road closures. Significant creek level rises were observed earlier this week upstream at Nappa Merrie in Queensland, where levels are now falling.
Elevated river levels and rises are also occurring along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole, due to a combination of flows arriving from the lower Diamantina River and local rainfall over the past week. Along the lower Diamantina River at Birdsville in Queensland, significant renewed river level rises and moderate flooding are occurring following locally heavy rainfall earlier this week. These larger flows are likely to arrive at Poothapootha Waterhole in South Australia over the coming weeks.
Many roads and access tracks are impacted by flooding, in particular river and creek crossings. Transportation and movement of local communities and travellers is likely to be further impacted. Check road conditions before travelling.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of South Australia. Queensland flood warnings are current for the Georgina River, Eyre Creek, Diamantina River and Cooper Creek.
Warburton:
Elevated river levels are occurring along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole.
Cooper Creek:
Elevated creek levels are occurring at Cullyamurra Waterhole, with the creek level around 2.5 m above the Innamincka causeway and falling. Renewed rises are possible over the coming week with further rainfall.
Flood Safety Advice:
Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.
