Initial Flood Warning For The Inland Rivers Sa

Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Initial Flood Warning For The Inland Rivers Sa Issued at 01:07 PM ACDT on Tuesday 24 February 2026 Flood Warning Number: 1 FLOODING OCCURRING ALONG THE COOPER CREEK AT INNAMINCKA ELEVATED RIVER LEVELS OCCURRING ALONG THE WARBURTON RIVER Moderate to heavy rainfall over the last few days in the Cullyamurra and Innamincka area has caused local creek level rises at Cullyamurra Waterhole and flooding of the causeway at Innamincka. Whilst only small creek level rises have been recorded upstream along the Cooper Creek at Nappa Merrie in Queensland, elevated creek levels and further rises may continue at Cullyamurra Waterhole and Innamincka for at least the next few days. Elevated river levels and rises are also occurring along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole, likely due to a combination of flows arriving from the lower Diamantina River and local rainfall. Floodwater is likely to cut roads and access tracks, and in particular river and creek crossings. Transportation and movement of local communities and travellers is likely to be impacted. A Flood Watch is current for parts of north-eastern and central South Australia, and a Severe Weather Warning for heavy, locally intense rainfall is current for parts of SA, including the Inland Rivers. Queensland flood warnings are current for the Georgina River, Eyre Creek, Diamantina River and Cooper Creek. Warburton: Elevated river levels are occurring along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole. Cooper Creek: Elevated river levels are occurring at Cullyamurra Waterhole, corresponding to a level of around 0.3 metres above the Innamincka causeway as of early Tuesday afternoon. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads. Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.
