Issued at 4:49 pm Thursday, 3 September 2026. Damaging winds continue about the south, easing later this evening. Weather Situation A trough is crossing the State this afternoon, bringing a renewed burst of damaging winds to southern and mountain areas. Winds will remain gusty across the State before gradually easing into the late evening and Friday morning, as the trough sweeps into the Tasman. DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas: Western, Upper Derwent Valley and South East DAMAGING WESTERLY WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with gusts around 100 km/h are likely to continue about southern and mountain areas for the remainder of this afternoon and evening. Isolated wind gusts to 120 km/h may be possible at exposed coastal and elevated locations. DAMAGING WINDS are expected to ease below warning thresholds throughout later this evening, though winds are expected to remain fresh and gusty into Friday morning. Locations which may be affected include Geeveston and Huonville. Severe weather is no longer occurring in the North East, East Coast, North West Coast, Central North, Central Plateau and Midlands districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED. Damaging wind gusts since 12:00 pm (Thursday): 157 km/h at Maatsuyker Island at 1:32 pm. 122 km/h at Scotts Peak Dam at 4:11 pm. 117 km/h at kunanyi/Mt Wellington at 4:14 pm. 111 km/h at Hartz Mountain at 3:52 pm. Cancellation for the following areas: East Coast,North East,Central North,Midlands,Central Plateau,North West Coast The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Supervise children closely. * Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings. * Manage pets and livestock. * Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment. * Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004. * Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving. * Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
