Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Victoria TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Heatwave Warning Issued at 01:44 PM EDT on Thursday 29 January 2026 Valid for Thursday 29 January 2026 to Saturday 31 January 2026 Warning for the following areas: North East Warning for the following areas: Mallee, Northern Country, East Gippsland, West and South Gippsland and North Central Cancellation for the following areas: Wimmera Safety Advice: Extreme heatwaves can be dangerous for everyone. Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home. If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool. Maximum temperatures in the high thirties to low forties over northern Victoria, and in the mid twenties to mid thirties over southern Victoria and Alpine regions. Overnight minimum temperatures in the mid teens to mid twenties. Severe to extreme heatwave conditions will persist over the next few days before easing by Sunday as a milder southwesterly flow extends across the state. Locations likely to be impacted include Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo, Bright, Echuca, Kerang, Mildura, Ouyen, Shepparton, Swan Hill and Wangaratta. The next heatwave warning will be issued by 3:00pm EDT on Friday 30 January 2026
