Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Moderate Flood Warning For The Avoca River Issued at 03:34 PM AEST on Wednesday 12 August 2026 Flood Warning Number: 4 MODERATE FLOODING LIKELY AT CHARLTON TOWN FROM EARLY THURSDAY MORNING Moderate rainfall was recorded across the Avoca River catchment during Sunday and into Monday, with the heaviest falls recorded in the upper parts of the catchment. River level rises are occurring along the Avoca River. Avoca River to Charlton Town: Minor flooding is occurring along the Avoca River at Yawong Weir, Charlton Town and Charlton D/S with moderate flooding likely at Charlton Town and possible at Charlton D/S. The Avoca River at Charlton Town is currently at 4.70 m and rising, with minor flooding. The Avoca River at Charlton Town is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (5.90 m) from early Thursday morning. The river may peak near 6.70 m Thursday evening, with moderate flooding. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs.
