Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Victoria Coastal Hazard Warning for ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES for parts of Central, East Gippsland, West and South Gippsland and South West Forecast Districts. Issued at 10:09 pm Wednesday, 3 June 2026. Abnormally high tides across Central and Gippsland coasts. Weather Situation A deep low pressure system moving over Bass Strait brings strong to gale-force westerly winds and elevated sea levels across central and eastern coastlines. The low moves eastwards over the Tasman Sea during Thursday shifting winds southwesterly and maintaining elevated sea levels about central and eastern coasts. ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES for the following areas: Central, East Gippsland, South West and West and South Gippsland ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES which may lead to sea water flooding of low-lying coastal areas are possible between Cape Otway and the VIC/NSW border, including Port Phillip and Western Port Bay, during Wednesday and Thursday. Tides are likely to rise well above the normal high tide mark during the Wednesday and Thursday afternoon and evening high tides. Elevated sea levels have since peaked about western coasts. Locations which may be affected include Melbourne, Brighton, Frankston, Ocean Grove, Inverloch, Port Albert, Phillip Island, and Lakes Entrance. A separate warning for DAMAGING WINDS is also current. The Victoria State Emergency Service and Life Saving Victoria advise that people should be aware of the following: * Do not walk, ride or drive through flood waters. * Stay away from beaches, tidal rivers and creeks. * If you have a boat or water craft, haul out if possible or check your moorings are secure. * Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. * Stay informed - monitor weather warnings and forecasts at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency app, website and hotline (1800 226 226).
