Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Western Australia TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Heatwave Warning Issued at 01:26 PM WST on Friday 09 January 2026 Valid for Friday 09 January 2026 to Monday 12 January 2026 Warning for the following areas: Gascoyne, North Interior and South Interior Cancellation for the following areas: Pilbara and Goldfields Safety Advice: Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home. If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool. Maximum temperatures ranging from the low to high forties. Overnight minimum temperatures in the mid to high twenties. Severe heatwave conditions will continue to contract towards the northeast over the next few days. Severe heatwave conditions have eased over the Pilbara and the Goldfields, however low intensity heatwave conditions will persist over the Pilbara in the coming days. Locations likely to be impacted include Balgo Hill, Kiwirrkurra and Warburton. The next heatwave warning will be issued by 2:00pm WST on Saturday 10 January 2026
