Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Western Australia TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Heatwave Warning Issued at 12:26 PM WST on Monday 05 January 2026 Valid for Monday 05 January 2026 to Thursday 08 January 2026 Warning for the following areas: Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne, Goldfields, Eucla, North Interior and South Interior Cancellation for the following areas: Central Wheat Belt Safety Advice: Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home. If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool. Maximum temperatures generally in the low to mid forties, reaching high forties in parts of northwest WA. Overnight minimum temperatures in the high teens to mid twenties, reaching high twenties in parts of northwest WA. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue over coming days before contracting northward over the second half of the week as maximum temperatures begin to ease across southern WA. Severe heatwave conditions have eased over the Central Wheat Belt however low intensity heatwave conditions continue. Locations likely to be impacted include Exmouth, Kalgoorlie, Laverton, Leinster, Leonora, Meekatharra, Mount Magnet, Newman, Paraburdoo and Wiluna. The next heatwave warning will be issued by 2:00pm WST on Tuesday 06 January 2026
