Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, National Water Operations Minor Flood Warning For The Katherine River Issued at 09:34 AM ACST on Wednesday 18 March 2026 Flood Warning Number: 39 RENEWED MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT NITMILUK CENTRE FROM OVERNIGHT WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY Renewed river level rises occurred along the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre during Tuesday afternoon, peaking just below the minor flood level. Further rainfall is forecast across the catchment over the next few days, which may lead to renewed minor flooding from overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Katherine River Gorge Road: Renewed minor flooding is possible along the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre. The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is currently at 2.18 m and falling, below the minor flood level. The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre may exceed the minor flood level (3.00 m) overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Flood Safety Advice: Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous. Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads. Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.
