Issued at 11:54 am Monday, 24 August 2026. Heavy rainfall developing about the Snowy Mountains and South West Slopes on Tuesday morning. Weather Situation A rain band will develop over southern NSW on Monday evening and move southeast throughout Tuesday morning, bringing heavy rainfall to the Snowy Mountains and South West Slopes. HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas: South West Slopes and Snowy Mountains HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING may develop about the Snowy Mountains and South West Slopes during early Tuesday morning. Six-hour rainfall totals between 50 to 60 mm are possible. The broader area of heavy rainfall is forecast to ease by Tuesday afternoon. However, severe thunderstorms may also develop and bring localised heavy falls to southern parts of the state during Tuesday afternoon and evening. Should severe thunderstorms develop, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued. Locations which may be affected include Thredbo, Khancoban, Perisher Valley, Charlotte Pass, Cabramurra and Selwyn. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
