Final Flood Warning For The Haughton River Catchment

FLOODING NO LONGER OCCURRING AT GIRU
River levels are falling at Giru following a peak just above the minor flood level during late Friday night.
Showers and storms are forecast over the next few days, which may lead to renewed river level rises across the catchment. The situation is being monitored, and this warning will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of Northern Queensland and the Cape York Peninsula.
Major Creek:
River levels along Major Creek remain elevated but are generally falling.
Haughton River:
Flooding is no longer occurring along the Haughton River at Giru.
The Haughton River at Giru peaked at 1.83 m around 10:30 pm Friday night, with minor flooding. The river is currently at 1.63 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Haughton River at Giru is likely to remain below the minor flood level (1.80 m) for the remainder of Saturday.
Flood Safety Advice:
Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
