Major Flood Warning For The Lower Flinders River

MAJOR FLOODING LIKELY AT WALKERS BEND FROM MONDAY, MAY CONTINUE UNTIL COMING WEEKEND
Moderate flooding is occurring along the lower Flinders River at Walkers Bend on Saturday. Major flooding is likely from Monday as floodwaters from the Flinders, Cloncurry, and Saxby Rivers continue to arrive, and may persist through the coming week and into next weekend.
A chance of showers and possible thunderstorms are forecast across the Flinders River catchment during the next few days, which is likely to prolong the existing peaks travelling through the river systems.
The flood situation is being monitored and warnings will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Western Cape York Peninsula.
Flinders River downstream of Richmond:
Major flooding is likely along the Flinders River downstream of Richmond.
The Flinders River at Walkers Bend is currently at 5.38 metres and rising slowly, above the moderate flood level (5.30 m).
The Flinders River at Walkers Bend is likely to exceed the major flood level (8.00 m) during Monday. The river level may reach at least 9.50 metres during Wednesday, with higher levels possible. The river level may remain above the major flood level for the duration of the coming week and into next weekend.
