    MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT TUMBULGUM AND NORTH MURWILLUMBAH
     MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT CHINDERAH DURING SATURDAY MORNING WITH THE HIGH TIDE
     Minor flooding is expected from overnight Thursday at Tumbulgum and from Friday morning at Murwillumbah and Chinderah. Flood levels may reach major at Murwillumbah and Tumbulgum from Friday afternoon, and major flood levels are possible at Chinderah during Saturday morning with the high tide.
     Moderate to heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Cyclone Alfred has been recorded across the Tweed catchment since Wednesday and is expected to intensify Thursday night. Forecast heavy to intense rainfall has the potential to cause dangerous and rapid river level rises along the Tweed River and its tributaries. Major flooding is possible from Friday afternoon with forecast rainfall, and further rises are possible over the next several days.
     A Tropical Cyclone Advice, Severe Weather Warning and Coastal Hazards Warnings are current for NSW including Tweed River catchment.
     Further heavy rainfall is forecast across the catchment for the next several days as TC Alfred makes landfall. The timing and location of the heaviest falls will depend on the track of the cyclone. This situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as necessary.
    
    Tweed River:
    Major flooding may occur along the Tweed River.
    
    The Tweed River at North Murwillumbah is currently at 1.00 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (3.00 m).
    The Tweed River at North Murwillumbah is expected to exceed the minor flood level (3.00 m) early Friday morning. The river level may exceed the moderate flood level (4.00 m) Friday morning and may reach the major flood level (4.80 m) from Friday afternoon with forecast rainfall.
    
    The Tweed River at Tumbulgum is currently at 0.90 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (1.40 m).
    The Tweed River at Tumbulgum is expected to exceed the minor flood level (1.40 m) overnight Thursday into Friday. The river level is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (1.80 m) Friday morning and may reach the major flood level (2.50 m) from Friday afternoon with forecast rainfall.
    
    The Tweed River at Chinderah (Barneys Point) is currently at 0.75 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (1.30 m).
    The Tweed River at Chinderah (Barneys Point) is expected to exceed the minor flood level (1.30 m) early Friday morning. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (1.70 m) Friday morning, where moderate flooding may occur during Friday and into Saturday, with river levels rising and falling with the tide. The river level may reach the major flood level (2.00 m) Saturday morning with the high tide.
    
    Flood Safety Advice:

     *Prevent damage to your vehicle. Move it under cover, away from areas likely to flood.
     *Avoid being swept away. Stay out of fast-flowing creeks and storm drains.
     *Never drive, ride or walk through flood water. Flood water can be deceptive and dangerous.}
