Initial Minor Flood Warning For The Kiewa River

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT KIEWA (MAIN STREAM) AND BANDIANA FROM OVERNIGHT THURSDAY
Rainfall totals up to approximately 55 mm have been recorded across the Kiewa River catchment in the 24 hours to 9:00 am Thursday, which has caused river and creek level rises across the Kiewa River and its tributaries. Minor flooding may develop at Kiewa (Main Stream) and Bandiana from overnight Thursday.
Further rainfall is forecast across the catchment from later Friday and into the weekend, which may cause further river level rises. The situation is being closely monitored and updates to this flood warning will be issued as required.
Kiewa River to Mongans Bridge:
River levels are elevated along the Kiewa River to Mongans Bridge.
Kiewa River downstream of Mongans Bridge:
Minor flooding may occur along the Kiewa River downstream of Mongans Bridge.
The Kiewa River at Kiewa (Main Stream) is currently at 2.68 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (3.30 m).
The Kiewa River at Kiewa (Main Stream) may reach the minor flood level (3.30 m) from overnight Thursday into Friday.
The Kiewa River at Bandiana is currently at 2.46 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (2.80 m).
The Kiewa River at Bandiana may reach the minor flood level (2.80 m) from overnight Thursday into Friday.
Flood Safety Advice:
SES advises that all community members should:
Never walk, ride or drive through floodwater
Never allow children to play in floodwater
Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains during and after heavy rain
Keep well clear of fallen power lines
Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks, and heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.}
