for ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES and DAMAGING SURF
for parts of Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast Forecast Districts.

Abnormally high tides and Damaging surf along the southeast Queensland coast
Weather Situation
Severe Tropical Cyclone Alfred is moving south through the Coral Sea generating large and powerful easterly waves. These waves will combine with spring tides from Saturday to produce abnormally high tides and severe beach erosion for southern Queensland. Large waves are expected to persist for several days as Alfred remains in the southern Coral Sea.
ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES and DAMAGING SURF for the following areas:
Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast
Water levels on the high tide could exceed the highest tide of the year by around half a metre Saturday morning between Seventeen Seventy to Burnett Heads and Sandy Cape to Coolangatta. This could lead to minor flooding of the foreshore and coastal erosion.
Damaging surf conditions which may lead to significant beach erosion and are likely to develop between Sandy Cape and Rainbow Beach from Saturday morning, extending further south to Maroochydore by Saturday evening. Damaging surf may also extend into Sunday and affect coastlines further south depending on the movement of Severe TC Alfred.
A Hazardous surf warning is also current for Capricornia, K'gari, Sunshine and Gold Coast waters http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings/hazardoussurf.shtml
Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Maroochydore, Coolangatta, Moreton Island, Noosa Heads, Rainbow Beach, K'gari, Seventeen Seventy.
Emergency services advise people to:
* Know your limitations around beaches, tidal rivers and creeks. Adhere to warning from lifesavers and lifeguards .
* If you have a boat or water craft, haul out if possible or check your moorings are secure.
* If you have children make sure they are within arm's reach around the water.
The next Coastal Hazard Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Friday.
